Day 2 (Tuesday Activities)

The Old Town tour, Salvador Dali, Alfons Mucha, and Warhol’s permanent exhibit, David Cerny, three microbreweries, and Bolt.

I typically don’t do things when I travel because I have been inherently lazy to have to figure out what to do. I just want to be lost in a crowd and discover things just by being in the place and seeing something that perks my interest. Journee is not like that for me in all ways.

I have to do stuff. Hilariously, I can say that I also stand out just because I do not have similar features as others on this side of the world, in Central Europe, so getting lost in a crowd is not easy. Not that I am the only one but I am not on tour groups from those other countties either and they would look at me the same way. Yes, they notice me, too. Oh well. I wonder half the time if they are profiling me but tbh, if they are, I am not going to see them again anyway.

But back to some of the things that stand out from today …

There are so many stories, so many pictures (not all of them are here) hidden societies, the astronomical clock, David Cerny art installations like the hanging Freud, more Warhol, the theatre President Vaklav worked at, Kafka’s birthhome, and rising water lines.

But the one story I would like to share is regarding the tiles with people’s name on them in the Jewish Quarter. They are memorials to those that died in the Holocaust at the doorstep of the home they were taken from. Once we were told about it, I couldn’t stop looking for them or even thinkkng of them in other areas on different days.

Full Day 12 – Thursday

Velskov …

This was the best experience and I absolutely recommend it. Look up the word geogastronomy (taste of place).

I planted a tree, helped set the table for the event, helped make our meal, and met Mamakan. She was amazing.

Velskov

She also took us out to the moss garden. She talked about how she finds meaningful, with sacredness in the spot and feel it, she shared how you can see time there; moss and lichen, to fern growth, and then to fruiting flowers. She played a song from her heritage and we shared e ho mai. It started to rain which wasn’t great for the outdoor cooking but a blessing in Hawaiian culture.

The food was wonderful and we saw Qunetin again. He stopped by to say hi and I was able to give him some candy for him and Sammy.

It was pretty perfect.

Some observations:

Kai = mea’ai = food

Mahi = hana = work

The reserve is meant to bring a few plants back to life. She is hoping to plant 80 different species to the forest.

New Zealand is the first place to create persons for natural places, e.g. mountain. Therefore it can sue. I love it.

Aladdin Jr. – Performing Arts Center of Kapolei

Squire and I went to Kapolei tonight for me to do some work for this art survey I’m a consultant for in Hawaii. It was a high school performance of Aladdin and the kids have a great vocal coach, it is Angela Morales who is more famously known as one of Na Leo Pilimehana. The kids are great, the costumes and props are amazing too. Here is a picture below of the camel that Aladdin rides up on and circles the cafeteria. Wow!
