Pre-Day – 0 (Friday, Journee Prep Travel Travel)

To start this trip, I had to actually fly separately to SFO because they didn’t arrange travel from HNL.

I felt like this made me a little ‘extra’ busy but I couldn’t complain that much as I didn’t plan anything else when I think of it.

The only thing I really had to figure out was my Nugget and Onyx.

I have a hard time leaving them and my home but I think it might also be partly because I got really sick after a competition I was in. One of the girls gave it me and I have been stressed about getting well and traveling for more than 24 hours.

I am not sure what I am feeling but chatgpt continues to be my favorite travel guide. It really makes me feel much more confident navigating my way around places and at least plan a head now that I know where I am headed!

Though I use ‘plan ahead’ very loosely, I mean it more logistically and helping me navigate.

Day – 0 (Saturday, the Journee Begins …)

Once I made it to SFO, I had to get my bag and figure out how to get to the Condor International Terminals. Thank you again chatgpt, I will stop saying this now because I use it every day and know I could say it every day, lol.

Pro – made it to SFO, SFO AirTrain got me from baggage to arrivals with no issue. There are a lot of options in Terminal G I read in my app for food. I might try going there once I charge my devices. Tried it out, it was closer than I expected and could charge in their food court.

Con – Finding bathrooms were way harder on the gate side but easier in Baggage Claim. My airline doesn’t open till 1p and I got here at 8a.

Then the flight left an hour and a half late so I was freaking out about making my connecting. Luckily I was still stateside so I could use my phone plan prior to takeoff.

Once in the airplane I purchased their data plan in the air. Unlimited internet and text! Text was different so I was able to keep in touch with some of the family while I was in the air, flying to Europe.

Day – 0.5 (Sunday, TMI)

I spent most of the day in the San Francisco airport waiting for the Condor counter to open.

I didn’t really attempt to find food right away but found Koi Palace Express and got shrimp har gow and next to it, a vegetable and chicken soup because I missed breakfast hours. On air-side (past TSA, by the terminal gates) I found a Proper Foods, I liked them because their foods were clean foods, for lack of a better way of saying it.

I had a hard time finding a water refill station but was able to by still water refillable bottles. I think those will come in handy, if I can get large bottled waters to refill later.

So now to the inner journey that I am thinking about right now.

It started almost two years ago, I started feeling like something was not right in my marriage – not wrong perse, just … off. At the time I couldn’t really explain it but there was preoccupation and disinterest in trying anymore. It made me realize that I wasn’t okay and tired of trying and not feeling like it was worth it because it wasn’t appreciated. I stopped feeling ‘met’ and there was reciprocity.

This translated into a larger ‘why’ for me. Why am I working at this when I can do it all myself? Why did I need him? Even if harder, I could still do it for and by myself. I didn’t need someone, so there had to be a reason why I wanted them there. The thought still pains me but only because it was a good man and a good relationship. That doesn’t necessarily mean that it was the right love for me anymore. And that hurt.

I regretted the time spent, not because it was all bad because it was hardly bad. That is what made it harder. I hurt someone and wish I had known in the beginning that it would eventually end with me hurting someone by breaking up with him. Not because I didn’t learn, grow, and love him, but because in its end, I hurt him.

I know what hurt someone’s heart feels like and tried my hardest to never hurt someone else. The saving grace for me was knowing that in the long run, staying wasn’t going to fix anything, I/my love had already changed. Staying would have made it unfair to him and potentially harder to always keep love in mind which was my mantra, which I learned early on making this relationship work.

So I did the hard thing and made the divorce happen. It was finalized last year.

[Insert, going to Narita and starting hula to do something creative for myself with more meaning, then traveling with a friend for her birthday to Rarotonga, Papeete, and Auckland, lost that friendship and another that got me through the divorce though I never found out why.]

In Spring of this year, my father passed away. It was sudden, he didn’t know he was that sick and passed in a week’s time. My relationship with him was hard, it is like that with both my parents for different but oddly similar reasons. But at the end I wasn’t there for me, I was there for him and wanted to make sure what he wanted after, happened.

[Insert performed in the hālau at a few random performances – trying to build the muscle a little based on my past professional theatre experience – and competition where I stayed in the hotel my grandmother used to own a unit in.]

Which brings me to now, in SFO, heading to Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. With a text from my Auntie as I left HNL, that said grandmother asphyxiated, and learning today, as I am about to leave to Europe, that the Dr. has given my grandma, who has been in the care of a third-party homecare prior, a couple days to live.

I Heart Turtles

So we’ve been lucky enough to get to the beach when we got home from our trip through nine states. It was very restful and I really enjoyed taking my cousin to all our favorite island stops. The best part was we were not disappointed at our favorite turtle watching spot.

There were at least ten of them and we got to see a couple go in and out of the water.

Hi Turtle!

He had something to say and Squire was lucky enough to catch it.

I have no idea what he said but I think that they were just chilling and staring at the ocean just like we were.

A tour with Jeff (and Jeannie.)

Today, Squire and I had the opportunity to take a tour of the Norwegian Cruise Line with our very knowledgeable tour guides, Jeff Griggs and Jeannie Cahill, and some of our friends, Jen, John, Kim, Larissa, Scott, and Aaron.

DSCN2573

We all met up at the Restaurant Row Bar to make our way across the street to the pier where the guests and the crew embark.

We first went through a check-in desk, then through security, and once we were all securely inside the first check thru, Jeff began the tour.

DSCN2525

We did not enter through the same area that the rest of the guests had to because we came in as visitors of the crew and weren’t going to be boarding to stay the week. Here we are off to the side of the main check-in watching the tourists go through check-in.

DSCN2527

The crew doesn’t have to go through that way because they don’t enter through the main ship entry way. They enter a different way and here we go.

Once on board there is another place for us to stop. At this point we give up our driver’s licenses and get these nifty visitor passes for “inside access.”

Once through all the security Jeff took us upstairs to see the main entry that the guests arrive through.

It looked like a very patriotic hotel. But one of my favorite places on the tour was the next stop we made, here is Jeff showing us where the Japanese food on the ship could be found.

The next stop we made was to the Hollywood Theater, this is where Jeannie, Jeff and the rest of the cast perform weekly. The house holds up to 800 and it’s a great space to play. This is where they do their sketch shows.

Next stop we went to the Mardi Gras Room, it’s where they do improv and where they judge Dancing with the Stars – America.

Although it was really dark, my flash did the trick and we were able to see behind the curtain. We entered through the side door and were able to exit right on to the dance floor.

Our next stop was the cabins and we were able to go through the crew entrance to boot.

Home sweet home, when Jeff and Jeannie are at sea.

DSCN2555

All the rooms have a great little device/room number sign. It lets those around you know whether or not you don’t want to be disturbed and welcome among other things.

DSCN2556

After that, we tried to get outdoors and that turned out to be harder than we thought.

Once on the other side (see lever) we learned that the wheel on the door was used to seal the inside of the cabin to be water tight.

DSCN2558

The next safety feature we learned about on the boat were the lifeboats. There were two types of lifeboats. The first ones we saw were the inflatable lifeboats, I recognize those from most movies I’ve seen. The rafts are lowered into the water by these hooks on the side of each row of canisters.

DSCN2559

The main lifeboats were ready to go and they were huge.

Next stop of the tour we get to see the game room. Many games are played there and many friendships torn asunder, or so I’ve heard.

DSCN2564

Then it’s to the library, I was excited to see this place because I’m glad they had one and it looked very clean and neat.

DSCN2566

 DSCN2567

Also, Jeff showed us his favorite spot on the ship.

DSCN2568

The next stop was one of the restaurants on the ship that you needed to pay to eat at (the buffet was part of the cost of the package – free). It had two floors and was very patriotic.

DSCN2570

DSCN2571

John got to meet George Washington.

DSCN2572

Scott got to dance and hi-five Abe Lincoln.

DSCN2574

DSCN2575

Scott also got to lay with the stars.

DSCN2577

Then it was time to take the walk down the stairs.

DSCN2579

Which Squire did in style (and thankfully without getting us into trouble).

DSCN2581

The next stop we made, was a well kept secret off of the elevators on the 11th floor. It was the conservatory. A small area behind the pool bar.

This pool should look familiar if you’ve seen the videos that Jeannie and Jeff post.

DSCN2588

Squire even had the opportunity to play chess, which Jeff said he’ll check to see if someone makes a move after him.

DSCN2589

Next, it was time to get some exercise in so we took the walk to the gym.

DSCN2592

DSCN2594

We also saw the small version of the pool and the area to golf and play basketball. Yep, they seem to have it all.

DSCN2595

And the last two pictures I have are of the buffet area. It has a great selection and a lot of choices (for free).

We were able to see the whole boat in about two hours and eat. It was a nice day, a wonderful tour with the best guide and great company. Thank you Jeff for making this happen and we can’t wait to see you and Jeannie the next time you’re in port.
